The Kid

The Kid ,22 years old, of Dutch and Brazilian parentage and a self-educated contemporary artist. Through the medium of his artwork, this young artist questions notions of ''social determinism and the thin frontier between innocence and corruption.'' Truly remarkable in its exposition and finesse, his body of work is one that challenges the viewer to consider issues such as human tragedy, injustice, bias and intolerance.

for his art, he use only "bic ball pen'

his drawings of individuals were created using just a Bic pen and show actual people - young men serving life sentences in United States’ penal institutions. These individuals, incarcerated before the age of eighteen (in some cases before turning fourteen), will most probably live the remainder of their lives in prison as they currently have no likelihood of remission. Despite their separate crimes, the artist is curious about each personal story and what has taken place.

the artist describes how he was affected by experiences at school in which he was victimised by both peers and teachers (at a younger age, one’s way of interpreting the world is often limited to school and home).

I like this artist beacasue there is a deep story behind all his works and some of his works came from his own experiences and his own thoughts about the social derterminism.
I am inspired by his art skill where he can be very detailed and realistic in his illustrations.
Also, he has not learnt any art skill before and using just a bic ball pen, he can create a massive artwork.

Shohei Otomo

Shohei Otomo is a Japanese pen artist who does magnificent pieces that will leave you in awe. I am inspired by Shohei because personally i enjoy pen work and the monochrome effect it has to it. I feel that his works are so detailed , simple and eye catching eventhough they do not have colour in them.My favourites are the Geisha series since I like how he portrayed the sophisticated Geishas in a a different light. I also have a thing or two for traditional and cultural artwokrs which has unique and distinct personal touches to it.

A local illustrator graduated from Temasek Poly,Visual Communications .

Started 'Sarah Thursday' to do create personal works and share them to the world while at the same time , earning a living.

Style of work is very gothic inspired.

Past works (the Monochrome Collection) were inspired by vintage Victorian illustrations and the style of traditional etching.
For the current Yokai Project, it still contains the signature etching style but the ideas and colours are inspired by traditional Japanese culture.

Uses Photoshop because it's clean and easy but loves traditional works and the look of it. Thus works are purposely done to look like pen-drawn illustrations.

I love the blend of goth and vintage style of the works , the pen-like illustrations and the details  ( THE DEEEETAAAAAILLSSSS. OMG )
The fact that it is done on photoshop is really interesting . I've always thought that it was pen drawing .

I really really love the Yokai collection as it is Japanese inspired  (yea . JAPANESE ) .
Hitsuji is my personal favorite - It reminded me of the studio Ghibli character , Princess Mononoke.  ^^

CJ Henry

CJ Henry is 26-year-old Australian artist who has been creating these jaw-dropping hyper-realistic pen drawings for two years now, but recently she got to the Olympus.

According to CJ, she says her journey as an artist began when she was at her lowest point knowing there was nothing to loose.

She said it takes about 100-200 hours to finish a drawing and the biggest part of it is structured craftsmanship instead of creativity.

iam attracted by her single objects drawing because of their simplicity and ability to attract viewer.

I am really amazed by her skill of using pen because when i first saw her artworks, i thought it was a photograph taken with black&white filter.

One of the biggest reason of liking this artist is beacuse i really like the way she expresses every detail of the object just by using pens. like chanel bag (below) she can express the leather like feeling and wine bottle (above) a transparent glass feeling.

Apart from her art skill, i am also inspired by her passion towards her work beacaue as a person who had a small experience on pen drawing , i needed a lot of effort, time and concentration to be really detailed on finishing a artwork using pen.

you can check out her instagram for more details and pictures :)

I like his works because of the creativity, imagination and how impressively detailed the works are. Looking at the works once isn't enough for me as they are interesting and will make you want to keep looking at them, no matter how many times you look at them, you will never get bored looking at them and you will be looking forward to see his latest works.
