Leonid Afremov
Leonid Afremov,(age 60)
I chose Leonid Afremov as my artist reference as I like how he utelises vibrant and dark colours on his work; light colours to highlight the bright areas and dark colours on the places he wants to recede. Leonid Afremov is known for his unique technique of painting and that is also one of the reasons why I admire him. I also like how he paints the reflection of the lights in most of his park and town paintings.
Leonid Afremov works mainly with palette knife and oil, he also developed on his own technique and style which is unmistakable and cannot be confused with other artist. His early artistic work was influenced by Chagall and Modigliani. Most of Leonid Afremov's work is mostly sceneries of a park or a town. Afremov's landscape capture the emotion of casual stroll through an old Belarusian city, with all the vibrant colours and culture alive in this artist's perspective. His style of painting has elements from pointillism, psychedelic art and impressionist work. he wants his work to bring hope and good spirit among people as he suffered verbal abuse and galleries were constantly vandalized. Hope brought elements of pyschedic bright colours and visuals in his works. His pairings usually reflect certain personal memories.
[It took 10 years for Leonid Afremov to build up his palette-knife handling skill up to the level that it is now. Leonid builds up his experience by painting a lot with oil and participating in various exhibitions]
