Pieter Bruegel the Elder
Background: Pieter was a dutch Renaissance painter and print maker and is known for his landscapes and peasant scenes.
Famous work: The towel of Babel and the seven deadly sins.
One of the few religious works Bruegel painted. The sins were described in a grotesque way while the virtues were described to look knightly with strange helmets.
The tower of babel was another religious art that was the subject of a three piece oil painting. The tower of babel was a building described in the bible that was a mark humanity unified to prevent them from scattering. The first was a miniature one painted on ivory when Pieter was in Rome and is now lost. The remaining two are currently view-able in separate museums.
Why I like the artist: Again because of the reasoning behind the drawings, the drawings were drawn mostly on religion however I quite like the way the tower of babel was structured and how Bruegel managed to make it seem like a castle which compared to the humans building it, was huge.
